Tummy toning is often the most difficult goal to achieve, especially for women who have had children. A company specializing in toning ab muscles is Slendertone. Can their product provide a virtual tummy tuck? Let’s first look at the product information:
The company produced the first toning belt to be cleared for market by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), all products are classified under the European Medical Device Directive and we won the Irish Consumer Goods Export Award in 2005. Slendertone has sold over 6.1 million toning belts worldwide.
The Slendertone belt uses Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) toning technology to create muscle contractions to tone your body. This technology works to mimic the body’s natural muscle movements; signals are sent between the gel pads on the belt, which turns on the nerves that control your muscles and cause them to contract.
As with any product, I recommend you do your research. In doing some research of my own, I have been quite impressed to find great results documented in both photographs and blogs like this post at Little Bento Blog. In just 4 weeks, she lost nearly 5 inches around her waste. I like to see “real people” results such as this instead of the models used in product advertising.
Here’s a fun test of the Slendertone Ab Muscle Toner to see if the women or the men can withstand the higher settings. Who do you think will win?
The woman with the before and after photos at the top of the page is Tressa, a 38 year old mother of 3. In her review, she says:
After a few months of eating right and exercising, I realized that I needed to tighten and tone my midsection, and sit-ups alone were not giving me the results I wanted.Taking the advice of my personal trainer, I decided to give Slendertone a try. As I worked my way up through the levels, I noticed my abs were getting stronger. The part that I liked the best was that I could multi-task. With three children and a busy lifestyle, it was nice to be able to wear the belt and exercise my abs while I did my cardio or cleaned my house. Now I am happy and proud to say I am not ashamed to wear a bikini when I go to the beach with my 8 month old baby girl!
A group of 20 member of the Netmums.com community completed the Slendertone Tummy Toning Challenge. I love that they provided before and after photos as well as written opinions. This is another great resource for real-world results and feedback. No fit models here! Check out their discussion forum about their experiences. Below is a before and after shot from one of the moms. Pretty impressive, huh?
I also appreciate that the company has added the option to improve core strength through exercise and not just using the belt alone. The Slendercise sessions offer a series of easy-to-follow toning routines. The exercises are designed to be used with or without Slendertone products. The video classes are meant to complement existing exercise routines to produce optimal toning results.
The Slendertone website also provides core exercises outlined in simple-to-follow instructions. In addition, they have some solid tips and tricks for brides-to-be and post-pregnancy moms on their website beyond just trying to sell their product.
In case you are thinking this product much be too good to be true, Electrical Muscle Stimulation is used in hospitals and physical therapy clinics to rehabilitate and strengthen muscles. I have had EMS treatments for a shoulder injury that really helped with my rehabilitation.
What seems pretty cool about this product is the fact that you can technically be doing ab exercises during all sorts of other activities like working at your computer, watching TV, doing dishes, etc. The belt fits easily underneath your clothing, so in theory you can use it anywhere. According to the company “the gel pads don’t stick to your skin, don’t require messy gel, and are latex-free. The result is a valuable abdominal trainer that lets you get the slender, toned midsection you want without interrupting your busy lifestyle. It’s even small enough to take on the road.”
I have not personally tried the Slendertone ab toner. I am pretty lucky to have rather toned abs. I am considering trying the Slendertone butt toner. Now they just need to create a toner for for my thighs. I’ve tried to present the information in an objective manner and only share my opinions based on my research and product information provided by the Slendertone company.
All exercise devices/equipment have their pros and cons. As with any fitness device, check with your doctor to discuss if it’s a good option for you. Do your own research to help make your final purchasing decisions.
